Steelers sign Diontae Johnson to a two-year deal worth $36.71 million

Steelers and Diontae Johnson agree on to a win-win contract extension.

Opinion:

After a week of holding-in during the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, wide receiver Diontae Johnson and the team agree to a two-year contract extension worth $18.355 million per year. The deal would be worth up to $39.5 million if DJ reaches his incentives and includes $27 million in fully guaranteed money.

Johnson was on the final year of his rookie contract and had seen many wide receivers from his draft class already get paid. This signing was one of Omar Khans first big contract extensions since being named general manager and looks to be a great deal for each party, allowing Johnson to sign an even bigger extension with the Steelers or in free agency while still being only 28 years old. “I love being a Steeler” … “I want to finish my career here”, Johnson said after signing.

The Steelers lock up their top target while providing them with long-term flexibility and Pittsburgh looks to have a young but highly talented wide receiver room for the coming years.
