First reported by Tom Pelissero, Dallas Cowboys franchise-tagged TE Dalton Schultz will sit out the remainder of the Cowboys’ voluntary OTAs.
Schultz signed his franchise tender of $10.931 million salary meaning if the two sides don’t reach a deal by July 15th, that money will be fully guaranteed.
Opinion:
Since Schultz signed his deal just a few months ago, I can’t say I’m surprised the Cowboys and Schultz have not reached a deal. From my perspective, it never seemed like the team was very interested in getting a long-term contract done with him.
The franchise tag should be considered more of a rental at this point. Schultz has likely priced himself out of the Cowboys’ range. I would be surprised to see them get a long-term deal done before the July 15th deadline.
Remember, these practices are voluntary. Schultz will be practicing when training camp starts back up.
