The first round of the NFL Draft is set for April 28th, 2022 at 8:00 PM ET.
The discussion has been swirling about the possible positions the Cowboys could look to draft at the 24th overall spot. Mock drafts from NFL scouts and TV analysts have differed on what the Cowboys will look to do in this year’s upcoming draft.
Let’s take a look at three positions the Cowboys could target in round 1 and the players that could be available.
1.) Offensive-lineman
- Tyler Linderbaum (Center, Iowa)
- Kenyon Green (Guard, Texas A&M)
- Zion Johnson (Guard, Boston College)
The offensive line seems to be the spot most Cowboys analysts seem to focus on. At least one of these names is likely available at the back end of round 1. Center Tyler Linderbaum, although he is undersized, dominated Iowa and could be a solid player for the Cowboys and an immediate upgrade over Tyler Biadasz. Kenyon Green would give the Cowboys an immediate starter at the left guard position and flexibility across the line. Offensive guard Zion Johnson is probably the most athletic player on this list and a cerebral player coming out of Boston College.
Any of these 3 players would make an immediate impact for the Cowboys at 24 and all should be a strong consideration.

2.) Wide Receiver
- Chris Olave
- Treylon Burks
- Jameson Williams
- Drake London
The wide receiver position is one of the most inconsistently ranked positions in the draft. Other than Garrett Wilson, any of the top 5 receivers could be available for the Cowboys. Chris Olave would give the Cowboys a technician on the outside, Olave is probably the most pro-ready wide receiver in this year’s draft. Treylon Burks can be a really good receiver in year 1 but would need more work than others. Jameson Williams is coming off an ACL injury and could slide down draft boards when the day arrives. But would the Cowboys want two receivers coming off ACLs heading into 2022? Maybe not, but the team would be getting a good player at the back end of round 1. Drake London seems like the least likely player to make the slide down to 24, he moves very well for a receiver his size and has the potential to be a top-end “50/50 ball” receiver.
3.) Defensive End
- George Karlaftis
- Boye Mafe
- Jermaine Johnson
This list is much shorter than the other two because of the value a good defensive end holds in the draft. It’s very likely all three of these names are off the board when the Cowboys make their selection at 24.
With the loss of Randy Gregory, the team could use another pass rusher to pair with Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons. But, the position could be picked over early in the draft, forcing the Cowboys to go another route.
